Commissioning Groups (CCGs) were established on 1 April 2013 and are
clinically-led organisations at the heart of the NHS system. NHS England has a
statutory duty (under the Health and Social Care Act (2012)) to conduct an
annual assessment of every CCG.
In 2016/17 NHS England introduced a new CCG Improvement and
Assessment Framework to replace both the existing CCG assurance framework and
CCG performance dashboard. This in turn was superseded in 2019/20 by the NHS
The NHS Oversight
Framework for 2019/20 has replaced the provider Single Oversight Framework and
the clinical commissioning group (CCG) Improvement and Assessment Framework
(IAF), and will inform assessment of providers and CCG’s in 2019/20.
It is intended as
a focal point for joint work, support and dialogue between NHS England and NHSImprovement, CCGs, providers and sustainability and transformation
partnerships, and integrated care systems.
